Loch Raven, Overlea Eliminated From B-Ball Tournament

After Thursday night's games, no local schools remain in the regional basketball tournaments.

The basketball postseason has drawn to a close for area schools after both Loch Raven and Overlea high schools lost region quarterfinal matchups Thursday night. The Loch Raven Raiders, who earned a number one seed and a first round bye heading into the postseason, lost a home game to Owings Mills (No. 8) Thursday night, eliminating them from competition. The final score of the game was 66-58, according to the MPSSAA website. Across town the Overlea Falcons (No. 11), fresh off a win over Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy, played at Pikesville (No. 5) where they suffered an 81-69 defeat, according to the MPSSAA website. Parkville Eliminated, Overlea Advances In Boys Hoops

First round play started Tuesday in the boys MPSSAA basketball championship tournament.

After one round of play, two local schools remain in competition for their respective region championships. The Overlea Falcons defeated their first round opponent, Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy (No. 6), in a Class 1A upset Tuesday evening. A score for the game was not immediately available. Overlea (No. 11) heads to Pikesville (No. 3) on Thursday; tip-off is at 6 p.m. An Overlea win over Pikesville, which earned a first-round bye, would see the Falcons take on the winner of a match-up between Bohemia Manor (No. 7) and Perryville (No. 2) early next week. In Class 2A competition, Loch Raven (No. 1) didn't play Tuesday night as their high seed earned them a first-round bye. The Raiders take on Owings Mills (No. 8) in a home game at 6 p.m…
