After Thursday night's games, no local schools remain in the regional basketball tournaments.
The basketball postseason has drawn to a close for area schools after both Loch Raven and Overlea high schools lost region quarterfinal matchups Thursday night. The Loch Raven Raiders, who earned a number one seed and a first round bye heading into the postseason, lost a home game to Owings Mills (No. 8) Thursday night, eliminating them from competition. The final score of the game was 66-58, according to the MPSSAA website. Across town the Overlea Falcons (No. 11), fresh off a win over Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy, played at Pikesville (No. 5) where they suffered an 81-69 defeat, according to the MPSSAA website. The last local school in the girls basketball region tournament was knocked out with a loss Wednesday night.
After earning a first-round bye and defeating Edmondson/Westside in the second round, Loch Raven's girls were eliminated from the MPSSAA Class 2A region championship tournament Wednesday night. The Raiders (No. 4) traveled to Randallstown (No. 1) where they were soundly defeated; the final score of the game was 42-19, according to the MPSSAA website. Parkville and Overlea high schools were eliminated from competition earlier in the tournament. MPSSAA action continues this evening when the Loch Raven and Overlea boys teams compete in the regional quarterfinals. Play continues in the MPSSAA girls basketball state championship tournaments on Wednesday.
Three local schools had girl's teams take the court for the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association basketball championship tournament. After two rounds of play, only one of those teams remains. The Loch Raven Raiders, who won 62-59 in their home contest against Edmondson/Westside Monday night, will play again on Wednesday night when the third round of the tournament begins, according to the MPSSAA website. Parkville, Overlea and Loch Raven High Schools will vie for region titles in the MPSSAA tournament, which begins next week.
It's time again for the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association region tournament in both boys and girls basketball. Check out where your local team is playing when the tournament kicks off next week. Three local high schools are ready to open MPSSAA postseason basketball action.
The basketball postseason is about to begin for the boys and girls teams from Parkville, Overlea and Loch Raven high schools. The schools won't, however, play one another—each is in a different Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association classification, based upon school population.
