The retail stores will officially offer a full line grocery store and be open 24 hours starting on Wednesday.
Scott Bonsall admits the last six months have not been easy for him. The manager of the Walmart in Rosedale said customers have been extremely patient as his store, located at 6420 Petrie Way, has been a large construction site while the retail chain has undertaken an extensive remodeling project of the 10-year-old building. During that time, portions of the store were torn apart with tarps covering many sections. Parking was also at a premium, with large sections of the lot closed off during the renovations. But Bonsall said dealing with all of those problems would be worth it come 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when the refurbished and redesigned Walmart hosts its grand reopening. The remodeled store will now be open 24 hours and will offer a …

Marlinde Wilson, the woman who says she has the winning Mega Millions lottery ticket sold at the 7-Eleven in Milford Mill, was present Wednesday during a press conference with her attorney.
Maryland Lottery spokeswoman Carole Everett told Pikesville Patch Wednesday afternoon that no one has yet come forward with the winning Mega Millions lottery ticket sold Friday at a Milford Mill 7-Eleven. Meanwhile, Baltimore resident Marlinde Wilson, who reportedly is an immigrant of Haiti and mother of seven children, still maintains she has that ticket. On Wednesday morning, Wilson and her attorney held a press conference. Wilson did not speak, according to a FOX News report, but her attorney Edward Smith asked the media "to not pester his client." He said her claim is "a legitimate claim," but he has not seen the ticket, the report states. Wilson allegedly bought Mega Millions lottery tickets for herself and a pool of coworkers at the …

Chrissy Polis was attacked in a Rosedale McDonald's on April 18.
UPDATED(11:35 a.m.)—Teonna Brown will serve five years in jail for her involvement in the beating of a transgendered woman in a Rosedale McDonald's in April. Brown, 19, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge John Grason Turnbull II to 10 years in jail, with five years suspended and two years of probation for the attack on Chrissy Polis. "[Brown] had every opportunity to disengage from this situation and chose not to," Turnbull said. The sentence was part of a plea agreement that resulted in Brown pleading guilty in August. Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger said prosecutors felt it was important Brown "receive significant time in jail." Brown, 19, and a 14-year-old girl were arrested and charged in the April 18 attack on …

The Carney fast food restaurant is running several promotions for its reopening, including one in which the first 100 customers get free food for a year.
While lots of people lined up for their first bite of a Gino's Giant earlier Wednesday, a small group was lining up for burgers that have never gone out of style—at McDonald's. The newly-renovated McDonald's restaurant at 2107 East Joppa Rd. is set to reopen early Thursday after being completely razed earlier this year. And with the reopening comes a special promotion that many cheeseburger lovers couldn't pass up: A sign facing the road proclaims that the "first 100 customers in the door eat free for one year." At 12:30 p.m. when many waited at the newly opened and nearby Gino's for their first taste, a group of young men who work at Outback Steakhouse in Perry Hall set up chairs near the front door to the McDonald's store. "We're …

Childhood obesity has received a lot of media attention lately. The spotlight has been focused on First Lady Michelle Obama’s efforts to fight the epidemic, the recent announcement that several fast food chains have agreed to offer healthier items on their kids’ menus, and the idea proposed by one physician, who compared childhood obesity to child abuse and stated in some cases, obese children should be taken from their parents. Most recently, McDonald’s announced an overhaul to their Happy Meals to make them healthier. Childhood obesity is inarguably a growing problem for our nation. It is, without a doubt, a serious health concern. Extra weight puts kids at higher risk for Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, arthritis, reflux, sleep apnea…

Chrissy Polis and Vicky Thoms have tried to put their lives back since the attack. They were in court Thursday to watch Teonna Brown plead guilty to charges related to the assault.
Chrissy Polis never asked to be a viral celebrity—she had it thrust upon her. The 22-year-old transgender woman gained nationwide attention in April when she was assaulted by two teenagers while coming out of a women’s restroom at a McDonald’s in Rosedale. The attack was recorded on an employee's cell phone and eventually posted on YouTube where it garnered hundreds of thousands of views. It also led to rallies in support of Polis and a call for tougher anti-discrimination laws. Polis hopes her life can return to normal now that the older of the two attackers, Teonna Brown, 19, pleaded guilty Thursday in Baltimore County Circuit Court in Towson to one count of first-degree assault and one count of committing a hate crime. According to the …
Teonna Brown is accused of beating a transgender woman in the Rosedale restaurant.
UPDATE (11:48 a.m.) — In circuit court this morning, Teonna Brown pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and a hate crime in connection with the April 18 attack on Chrissy Polis, a transgendered woman who was using the bathroom in a Rosedale McDonalds. Brown's sentencing hearing will be held on September 13, but according to the plea agreed upon Thursday morning Brown is set to serve 10 years in jail with 5 suspended. Teonna Brown was allegedly caught on tape in the April beating of Chrissy Polis in a case that garnered international attention after video of the attack went viral. A Baltimore County Circuit Court grand jury indicted Brown in May on assault and hate crime charges in connection with the attack. Brown, 18, and a 14-year-old …

The governor supports the decision to charge Teonna Brown with a hate crime for allegedly assaulting a transgender woman at a Rosedale McDonald's.
Gov. Martin O’Malley vowed to fight for stronger antidiscrimination laws next year following the hate crime indictment on Monday of a Baltimore County woman for allegedly assaulting a transgender woman last month at a Rosedale McDonald’s. O’Malley also commended Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger for the indictment against 18-year-old Teonna Brown, who already faced assault charges for the attack on Chrissy Polis. A since-fired McDonald’s employee recorded the attack on his cell phone before posting it online, which then went viral on the Internet. “Even with Maryland's 'hate crimes' law, it is clear that more must be done to protect the rights and dignity of transgendered people,” said O’Malley in a statement. “In the …

Hundreds gather in Rosedale at the McDonald's where Chrissy Polis, 22, was attacked by two females.
Renee Carr hated to see her daughter, Chrissy Polis, assaulted by two females inside a Rosedale McDonald's on the now-infamous video that went viral on the Internet. “That video was difficult to watch and I’m so upset of everything Chrissy had to endure during that time,” Carr said. But Carr believes a lot of good can now be generated in the weeks and months following the assault of Polis, a 22-year-old transgender woman who grew up in Essex and Dundalk. To Carr, the first step in learning from the assault came on Monday night when hundreds of supporters of the transgender community turned out for a rally in front of the McDonald’s, located on the 6300 block of Kenwood Avenue. Organized by several transgender organizations, supporters …
