The incident took place on Aberdeen Proving Ground Wednesday afternoon.
Officials on Friday identified a Nottingham man as the diver who died Wednesday during an underwater test at the Super Pond test facility on Aberdeen Proving Ground. George H. Lazzaro Jr., 41, of Notingham, died while performing "routine underwater test infrastructure maintenence at the Underwater Test Facility," according to an APG news release. The cause of death was not immediately known and an autopsy is pending. The U.S. Army is investigating the incident, the release stated. Lazzaro worked with the Firepower Directorate, Aberdeen Test Center, U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, according to the release. The 10-year-old building officially becomes a Super Walmart and will now be open 24 hours.
Nearly 10 years after first opening, the Walmart in Rosedale officially reopened on Wednesday. The store, located at 6420 Petrie Way, hosted a grand reopening ceremony to mark the completion of its transformation into a Super Walmart. The remodeled and expanded store will now be open 24 hours and has a full line of groceries, including a bakery, a deli, meat and dairy products section and fresh produce. "This [reopening] doesn't represent the end, but just the continuation of a journey that began almost 10 years ago to the day at this store," store manager Scott Bonsall said. The retail stores will officially offer a full line grocery store and be open 24 hours starting on Wednesday.
Scott Bonsall admits the last six months have not been easy for him. The manager of the Walmart in Rosedale said customers have been extremely patient as his store, located at 6420 Petrie Way, has been a large construction site while the retail chain has undertaken an extensive remodeling project of the 10-year-old building. During that time, portions of the store were torn apart with tarps covering many sections. Parking was also at a premium, with large sections of the lot closed off during the renovations. But Bonsall said dealing with all of those problems would be worth it come 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when the refurbished and redesigned Walmart hosts its grand reopening.
