A law firm issued a statement recanting accusations made about the man who performs the voice of Elmo on Sesame Street.
The 23-year-old man who accused puppeteer Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo, of having sex with him when he was 16 has recanted that allegation. New York Times reporter Brian Stelter is reporting via Twitter and newyorktimes.com that the man admitted the relationship was between consenting adults. The recantation was issued in a statement from a law firm, according to Stelter. Stelter also tweeted a statement from Clash: "I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further." The accuser claimed that he and Clash, who was raised in the Turner Station community of Baltimore County, had a sexual relationship seven years ago when he was 16 and Clash was 45. The new Asian grocery store opened in mid-October.
If you're part of the growing group of folks who love to cook, you no longer have to make the long commute out to the Catonsville-Ellicott City area to grab those hard to find Asian ingredients at Lotte Plaza or H-Mart. Pork belly? Check. Baby Chinese broccoli? Check. Black chicken, Chinese okra, tofu? Check, check, check. You can find all of the above at the new A-Mart Asian Grocery store in Satyr Hill Plaza, sandwiched between Goodyear Tires and Satyr Hill Cue Club at 2025 E. Joppa Road. The store, which opened on Oct. 18, offers a wide selection of Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Filipino foods. On Thursdays, they get in shipments of fresh vegetables and on Fridays, you can find fresh seafood. If pre-prepared foods and beverages are more …
During American Education Week, students in the school's environmental club are collecting items to be recycled.
America Recycles Day—Nov. 15—falls in the middle of American Education Week this year and students at Parkville's Villa Cresta Elementary School are doing their part to pitch in. The school's Green Team, a student organization with about 30 members in third, fourth and fifth grade, is taking up a collection during the mornings—they're looking for aluminium cans, plastic bags and batteries along with other items in order to promote recycling in the community. "If the weather is nice we'll be outside, if not then we'll be in the lobby," said Stephanie Foy, a Villa Cresta teacher and green team advisor. Members of the community are welcome to drop off recyclables, but Foy said it would be best if they could reach out to a student. "Anyone, …

Ashley Playford dressed up as a pirate carrying a mermaid this Halloween. Well, actually, she dressed up as the mermaid. Her creativity has earned her the title of Patch's Best Halloween Costume in America and a $5,000 grand prize. It was Playford's use of an optical illusion that won us over. Take a look at the photo she entered on Peekskill-Cortlandt Patch! Almost 4,000 Patch users entered the contest from Oct. 15 to Nov. 5, with costumes ranging from the Eiffel Tower and Honey Boo Boo to a flower pot and a clever interpretation of "binders full of women." National judges chose 1 finalist from each Patch state based on who had the most creative and innovative costume (we combined North Carolina & South Carolina for this contest, as …

As we head into the holiday season, an area food pantry is asking for assistance in feeding those in need. Victor's Vittles, an outreach program of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, is in need of donations of both perishable and non-perishable food items to help out families in the Carney area. For the past 13 years the pantry, located at 9833 Harford Road, has been working with families in the 21234, 21236 and 21286 ZIP codes. In a previous interview with Patch, program founder and director Charles Leight said that living in one of the areas the pantry serves is one of the only prerequisites to receiving assistance. "You have to live in a ZIP code that we serve ... we offer food to people based on need, and you have to be honest with us …

How did you celebrate Veterans Day? Members of the Carney Improvement Association and Parkville's American Legion Post 183 gathered at the memorial outside Carney Elementary School Sunday afternoon to commemorate the sacrifices of area veterans. The group was joined by Fifth District Councilman David Marks and state Sen. Kathy Klausmeier. Carney Improvement Association president, Meg O'Hare, described the ceremony as "touching, and a great way to show children and grandchildren how important the sacrifices are that were made during WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan wars." Do you know a veteran? How did you celebrate veterans day? Tell us in the comments.
