Human Trafficking Subject of Upcoming Police-Community Meeting

The Parkville Police Community Relations Council meets Tuesday night in Carney.

Human trafficking doesn't seem like something that could happen in Baltimore County. But if recent events are to be any indicator, the possibility exists close to home. Parkville's Police Community Relations Council will hear from police about the subject at a meeting Tuesday night, according to an email from group treasurer Pat Crum. The group, which meets at 7 p.m. March 26 at Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Carney, will hear a presentation about human trafficking in Baltimore County. Earlier this month a Towson woman, who owns a massage parlor in the Loch Raven area, was arrested on human trafficking and prostitution charges. Back in May 2011, police and federal law enforcement agents raided and closed down a massage parlor in …

Who would think that in 2013 Human Trafficking would occur in the Parkville Precinct area? I was shocked last summer when a couple from Parkville were arrested for bringing a woman from Florida to use as a sex slave--this is human trafficking too close to home! We have also had "brothel" massage parlors in the area. I first became aware of the issue because of Delegate Eric Bromwell several years…   more ›

TONIGHT: Free Gun Locks Available At PCRC Meeting

The police-community relations group hosts their first meeting of 2013.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting and the impeding debate over gun safety in state and federal government, one local group is offering a free chance to practice gun safety at home. Police Community Relations Council 8, a group that acts as a liason between the Parkville police precinct and the communities it serves, will offer free gun locks at a meeting tonight, according to an email from outreach officer Jason Goorevitz. A guest speaker will also address gun safety. Up to three locks would be availble per household. The group meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, Goorevitz wrote. A member of the Conflict Resolution Center of Baltimore County will also give a presentation.

Police-Community Group Reflects On 2012, Looks To 2013

The Parkville Police Community Relations Council held their final meeting of 2012 Tuesday night.

As the year draws to a close, members of a police-community group took some time to reflect at a Tuesday night meeting. The year 2012 has been a good one for the Precinct 8 Police Community Relations Council. In addition to monthly 'town hall' style meetings—held at Christus Victor Lutheran Church since January 2012, group president Rolfe Feser said that the group has been able to reach out to the community. Most recently, they put together two food drives, held at area Giant Food stores in conjunction with the police department, to collect for the Carney-area food pantry Victor's Vittles and provide Christmas dinner for between four and six families. Feser said the group has also been able to reach out to schools through the McGruff the …

Bomb Squad to Visit Police-Community Group Next Tuesday

The Parkville Police Community Relations Council will host their September meeting Tuesday night.

It's not every day that you get to see a live demonstration of a bomb squad at work. That's just the opportunity you'll have if you attend the September meeting of the Parkville Police Community Relations Council Sept. 25, though. The group, which holds meetings at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, will host bomb squad technicians from the Baltimore County Police Department's Hazardous Devices Team, according to an email from group treasurer Pat Crum. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at 9833 Harford Road. "PCRC is a very important group in our community. They are our liaisons with the Baltimore County Police Department," said community leader Meg O'Hare in an email. "They educate us citizens at the monthly meetings and serve as …
