Growing Fuel Costs Still Lower Than Last Year

Gas prices rose an average of 4 cents per gallon over the last week, the second straight week of gains.

AAA reports that gas prices are up 4 cents since last week in the Baltimore metro area reaching $3.38. Nationally, prices rose by 4 cents from $3.35 to $3.39. After seeing a decline for nearly three straight months, prices at the gas pump are up 4 cents on average in the Baltimore metro.

Gas prices in the Baltimore metro jumped 4 cents over the course of the last week as millions of Americans travelled for the 4th of July holiday. AAA reports that gas prices are up just a penny on average nationwide, but here at home prices increased about 4 cents. In the Baltimore metropolitan area, AAA reports the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded rose to $3.34 on Friday, representing a 4-cent increase from a week ago, but a 21-cent decrease over last year. Gas Prices Continue Slide as Summer Nears

The average cost for regular unleaded has fallen nearly 50 cents a gallon locally since peaking at $4 in early April, AAA reports.

  As the summer driving season begins, motorists are being treated to lower-than-expected gas prices. The national average cost for a gallon of regular slipped to $3.59 Sunday, down 6 cents from a week ago and 20 cents from a year ago, according to the latest AAA survey. In Maryland, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded Sunday was $3.52, down 5 cents from a week ago and 27 cents from a year ago.
