The grocery store chain turns 77 on Wednesday.
No word yet on whether they'll be offering punch and pie, but Giant Food stores will be offering customers free cake Wednesday to celebrate a milestone in the company's history. Giant Food, which was founded in 1936 in Washington D.C., celebrates 77 years in business on Feb. 6. They're offering a slice of free birthday cake to customers at all 170 stores from 6-8 p.m. tomorrow. In Parkville-Overlea Giant Food stores are located at Putty Hill Plaza and in Parkville Shopping Center where the chain opened a store last year.

An area grocery store will be giving away free groceries Friday as a reward to its customers. Giant Food, which opened in Parkville Shopping Center in early 2012, has arranged to give away groceries to 23 families during an event held from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 18. Patrons of the shop have already had a chance to enter the contest, according to a release from Giant. 22 of the winners will get free groceries for a month, while one family will be awarded free groceries for a year. "It's just to reward those shoppers who have been loyal to frequenting that store," the release said. "Hopefully people will come and see if they have won." Giant Food presented Bill Grubbs with a giant check after he won the Year of Free Groceries Sweepstakes.
It's been a little over a month since Parkville's new Giant store opened and now one shopper has won free groceries for a year. Today Bill Grubbs received a huge check from the company for $7,800 after he won Giant's Year of Free Groceries Sweepstakes. According to a release from Giant, the amount will be paid out in gifts cards and represents a year's worth of groceries.

Union members at two of the largest grocery store chains in the region approved new labor contracts Tuesday even as troubling health care issues threaten to force renegotiation of the agreements as early as next year. Workers at Giant Foods and Safeway ratified contracts in meetings Tuesday at the Cow Palace meeting hall at Timonium’s Maryland State Fairgrounds, according to United Food & Commercial Workers Local 27. The new grocery store opened Thursday evening and drew scores of people for promotions.
After a just a month of intensive renovation, Giant Food opened their new store in Parkville Shopping Center Thursday night amid a ton of fanfare. The grand opening event was attended by Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, County Council members Cathy Bevins and David Marks and Third District City Councilman Robert Curran along with scores of Parkvillians excited to see the return of a grocery store to the neighborhood. The newly renovated Giant store in Parkville Shopping Center will open for business on Friday.
After nearly two months without a grocery store in Parkville Shopping Center, Giant will open the doors of their newly renovated store this Friday, according to officials with the company. In a press release Giant officials said that the 41,000 square foot store is "85 percent new" and that elements of the store that weren't replaced were upgraded to meet the company's standards. The new store will bring 100 new jobs to the Parkville community, the release states. Less than a year after Fresh & Greens took over the store in Parkville Shopping Center, it's being sold to Giant Food.
Giant Food is buying the former Superfresh location in Parkville from Fresh & Green's, less than a year after the latter took the store over Giant, the Baltimore area's largest grocer, announced the deal today with Mrs. Green's Management Corp. to buy the location at 7709 Harford Road in Parkville. Parkville store manager Denise Clark, who has worked at the store since it was a Superfresh, was excited to share the news on a Friday afternoon. "I’m excited that there’s still going to be a grocery store in the community and Giant Food certainly has a great reputation for customer service," Clark said.
