The national thrift chain is opening a location in a space at Joppa Heights that previously housed Giant Food.
After staying vacant since 2007, a space at Joppa Heights may once again see a bustle of activity when Savers celebrates its grand opening Thursday. "We are committed to offering fresh products every day and working with local nonprofits," said Fikru Beshah, the store's manager. The national thrift retailer will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m., Thursday for the Parkville location, at 1925 E. Joppa Road. Grand opening festivities will continue through Saturday and include opportunities for patrons to win a $100 Savers gift certificate. A 39,000 square foot vacancy in the Joppa Heights will soon be filled by a new tenant. Savers, a thrift store, plans to open their new retail space in the shopping center by mid-March, according to a recent news release from the company. The new shop, located at 1925 E. Joppa Road, will be the chain's eighth Maryland location and bring with it approximately 50 new jobs, the release states. Employment opportunities include back room store merchandise processing positions, sales floor and cashier roles, in both part and full-time," according to the release. The vacancy in Joppa Heights shopping center will be filled by a Savers, Inc. store.
A commercial vacancy in the Joppa Heights shopping center has a new tenant: Savers, Inc. The new store will take over space left vacant when Giant moved out of the shopping center back in March 2007 and bring about 40 new jobs to the area, according to a statement from Fifth District Councilman David Marks announcing the new shop. According to the company website, Savers is a thrift store whose "inventory comprises unique, quality used goods as well as new merchandise, including closeouts on great items not found at other thrift stores." A shopping tour on the site shows that they offer men's, women's and children's clothing as well as housewares, collectibles and furniture. I hope it does well! I can't understand why that area has been vacant for so long, it's a prime spot right off of Joppa and Perring Pkway.   more ›
