White Marsh Parkour Gym Preps for American Ninja Warrior Tryouts

Watch Patch videos of Alternate Routes gym members preparing for Friday's preliminary contest at Rash Field.

White Marsh will be well-represented come Friday when hundreds of would-be American ninjas descend on the Inner Harbor for a chance to become warriors. The television series American Ninja Warrior will be filming tryouts beginning at 8 p.m. at Baltimore's Rash Field park. Tony Torres and his brother Edwin Torres, owners of Alternate Routes gym in White Marsh, believe they are ready. "It's redemption," Edwin, a 27-year-old White Marsh resident, said. The brothers Torres have twice competed in the preliminary trials for American Ninja Warrior—a competition that pits ridiculously fit men and women against a series of man-made obstacles that test physical strength, muscular endurance, balance and unyielding focus. Competitors are timed as they…

Ray Lewis, Ravens Memorabilia Selling Fast in White Marsh

Fans may have a hard time finding signed Ray Lewis items this playoff season.

When it comes to sports memorabilia, Great Moments at The Avenue at White Marsh lines their walls and shelves with it.  But don't expect to simply drop in for a something signed by outgoing Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis. As his 17th season draws to a close, all things memorializing the Baltimore legend are flying off the shelves.  After pulling off an unlikely win in their NFL divisional playoff game in Denver, Lewis' farewell tour will make at least one more stop: next Sunday at in Foxborough, MA, meeting the New England Patriots with the AFC championship and a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. As of last week, the last of the store's signed photo canvases of Lewis—priced at about $300—sold out, according to manager P.J. Tebin. Signed …

Buca di Beppo To Open at White Marsh Mall Monday

A grand opening celebration is expected following the soft opening on Jan. 7.

The wait is almost over.  Buca di Beppo, an Italian chain restaurant, is expected to open on the lower level of White Marsh Mall on Monday, Jan. 7.  But don't expect much fanfare on its first day—a grand opening celebration is expected on a later, yet-to-be-determined date, according to a representative of the mall, which is located at 8200 Perry Hall Boulevard.  The mall first announced in February 2012 that Buca di Beppo would fill the 6,944-square-foot space left vacant by the former Lin's China Buffet. Initially, the Italian restaurant was projected to open in spring 2012 and then fall 2012, according to announcements on the mall's website. Buca di Beppo first began hiring workers in November.  The restaurant chain has 86 locations …

Donations, Community Outreach at Nottingham Walmart Reopening

After 16 months of renovation, the Nottingham Walmart includes a full grocery store.

Speeches, free samples, live music, a giant inflatable milk jug—it was all part of the Nottingham Walmart's grand reopening Wednesday morning. But amid the "W-A-L-M-A-R-T" cheer and ribbon cutting, which largely involved store and corporate employees, representatives of several non-profits, schools and community organizations also attended. They were there to accept charitable donations, ranging between $1,000 and $2,500. Those awarded included the Maryland SPCA, the Perry Paw Dog Park, the Maryland School for the Blind, the Fullerton Fireworks Foundation, the Perry Hall High School Steel Band and Pine Grove Middle School. The American Legion Overlea-Perry Hall Post and local chapter of the Knights of Columbus were also recognized. State …
