Joseph P. Dorsey Sr., the original owner of the Diver’s Den in Parkville and a pioneering scuba diver in Maryland, died of heart failure in Port Royal, Va. on April 1. He was 79 years old. Dorsey, who owned the Diver’s Den for 38 years, the first diving shop in Baltimore, won many awards for his contributions to the diving community including induction into the Divers’ Hall of Fame at the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association convention in Orlando, Fla. "He taught thousands of divers, literally thousands," said Ellsworth Boyd, a fellow diver who grew up with Dorsey in the Hamilton neighborhood. A man and his 4-year-old daughter were shot in their car while waiting at an in intersection. According to Baltimore County police, the 23-year-old man and his daughter were shot at 8:17 p.m., Monday, at the intersection of Old Home and Meadow roads in the Elmwood community. A family member then drove the pair to Franklin Square Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police do not believe this was a random shooting, but there is no further information available because the investigation is ongoing, according to a news release.

The Parkville businesses owners were named the Hope and Peace Foundation’s Community Partner of the Year.
The owners of McAvoy's sports bar are being honored for more than just running a great place to watch the game. Bill and Diane Schmittenger and Adam and Maria Bloom, of Bel Air, will be honored by Baltimore-based Hope and Peace Foundation’s Community Partner of the Year during an award ceremony at 7 p.m., April 13 at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 34, 734 Wampler Road, according to a news release. "At a time when many businesses have been forced to cut out charitable donations, McAvoy’s has sponsored or hosted over 20 events annually to benefit causes and charities within the community," the news release reads. PERRY HALL, Md.—Umpire Jeff Kellogg is being hailed a hero after he tackled a shirtless man during the seventh-inning stretch at Camden Yards Friday night. A family member has confirmed that the alleged streaker, 20-year-old Christopher E. Fatkin of Parkville, was arrested after the incident. YouTube videos show Fatkin sliding into home plate before his run-in with Kellogg. "Kellogg chased him down from behind, wrapped him with both arms and took him to the warning track with an open-field tackle," Patch editor Sean Welsh reported for MLB.com. Folks this was not random. I think we all know it was most likely a drug deal of some sort gone wrong. Ladies and gentlemen we need to take back our neighborhoods from thugs.
