  It says they were in the crosswalk but it doesn't say they had a "walk" signal. Sadly, those church going people tend to cross at inappropriate times. My heart goes out to the family. :(

  You people condoning this arrest and conviction are insane. If anybody should be held to a higher standard, it's those in the public eye. Drunk drivers are potential murderers. The penalties are not stiff enough as it is. Take his license, put him on ptobation where he has to go see an officer and force him to resign. Period. I've seen too many people get DUI/DWI's and get a slap on the wrist. First one, probation. Second arrest, JAIL. I'm sure if Mr. Huff continues to "abuse alcohol" we will all be commenting on it again.

  You want to know why this was dangerous? Because this moron cut through school property at dismissal time, scaring the daylights out of parents and kids. THIS WAS TERRFYING! At the time, none of knew that it was what it was. It was a GUN, on school property, walking within a few feet of a playground where a bunch of small children and their parents were standing. With all the school shootings that have been happening, this is absolutely, no doubt, the 100% right thing to do. You have NO CLUE how terrifying this incident was to everyone involved. I hope this loser already has a record and they send his dumbass to jail or prison. While I can't say anything positive about how our principal handled things our teachers and parents, and especially the police handled this wonderfully. So until you have a kid at a school where a moron is with a gun, operable or not, only then can you say it's a waste of resources.

  This article is inaccurate. My daughter goes there and my dad was there. Multiple witnesses, including the 911 caller, saw a rifle. It WAS a rufle. He was not in his yard. At VCE, there are a bunch of trees on the back edge of the property. He came through the trees, walked through the sports fields, then continued on walking less than 10 feet from a playground where multiple parents and children were playing. That's where the parents were who called 911. He continued past them, through the school parking lots, then onto a van on Rader ave. He was ABSOLUTELY on school property with a gun at dismissal time. As a terrified parent, I could care less if it was operable or not. It scared the crap out of us all, and our children. I usually agree with most of what the Patch posts but somebody is lying. It could very well be the police that are lying. I mean, they never do that. This guy needs to be charged just for being there.

  Ms. Russo, did you have a.child there? Obviously not. I don't care what he was doing. He was ON SCHOOL PROPERTY WITH A GUN! He came from one side of the school property to the exact opposite. There is NO EXCUSE for that EVER! My father was there so I have first hand knowledge, plus I have spoken to multiple parents. I was there on the phone panicking for my child and everyone else's child. My facts are exactly what I was told my multiple witnesses. I also have lost a child and choose not to lose another, but when you hear the words "man with a gun on school property. School is locked down", only then can you minimize my or anyone else's panic.
